MATCH REPORT: Hearts held by a resilient Liberty Professionals

Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a 1-1 draw at home by a resolute Liberty Professionals in the match day 16 of the Ghana Premier League played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

 

Vincent Atinga scored from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time to level the 34th minute lead by Liberty professionals through Benjamin Eshun.

 

Accra Hearts of oak began the game in the manner they did a fortnight ago when Fatawu Dauda fired a shot in the 17th minute after Patrick Razak had twisted and turned in the box before laying it to the right back.

The phobians could have opened the scoring in 24th minute but Sam Yeboah’s header from a swinging freekick by Winful Cobinna went wide with an empty net gazing at him.

 

Three minutes later Liberty on the other hand had a chance in the box but Bernard Arthur’s shot was blocked by Kassenu Ghanadi.

 

The Phobians went in search of the opener as Winful Cobinna curled in a free kick which was met by Patrick Razak however his effort got deflected for a cornerkick.

 

The Dansoman based side started an attack after the phobians wasted the corner kick with Richard Kissi Boateng's marauding runs on the left causing troubles for Hearts.

 

Kissi Boateng’s persistence paid off when he took on both Patrick Razak and Fatawu Mohammed on the left, crossed the ball which was met by Benjamin Eshun after battling Atinga and Akrofi to score the opening goal of the game.

 

The Phobians with their backs behind started pushing for an equalizer and ten minutes later a mix up in the middle saw Patrick Razak racing through to the Liberty box and was eventually brought down by goalkeeper Emmanuel Anim.

 

The referee awarded the phobians a penalty which was expertly converted by Vincent Atinga on the stroke of half time.

 

Liberty Professionals came back from the break all attack with Black Stars team B defender Samuel Sarfo pulling a strong save from goalkeeper Samuel Akurugu.

 

The scientific soccer lads had a goal disallowed for offside after Denkyi’s cross from the left flank was met by Ben Eshun only for the linesman’s flag to be up.

 

Patrick Razak nearly found the back of the net but his diving header wasyard off the post.

 

It was a frenetic end to the game with Accra Hearts of oak creating numerous chances but wasted most of them.

 

Hearts drops two points at home and will next travel to Sogakope to play WAFA. Liberty will make a short trip to play Tema Youth.
