Amos Frimpong - grabbed the match winner

Kumasi Asante Kotoko moved to within two points of league leaders Accra Hearts of Oak with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Inter Allies on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Inter Allies who had lost their last six consecutive home games heading into the clash were on course to ending that run with the scores at 0-0 but a moment of madness from their striker Sulley Mohammed cost them the game.

Mohammed who was booked for a late tackle in the dying embers of the first half was handing his marching orders in the 55th for time-wasting when he was about to be substituted.

Kotoko opened the scoring five minutes after Mohammed was sent-off when waves of pressure finally told and they were awarded a penalty for a shove on Elvis Amoh.

Kotoko skipper, Amos Frimpong converted the penalty expertly into the bottom-right corner to hand his side a 1-0 lead.

Kotoko made a raft of substitutions after the 50th minute mark when Halipha Sedogo reduced Edwin Tuffour and Kwadwo Poku came on for Theophilus Nyame.

Allies also brought on Ropapa Mensah who was in line to replace Mohammed before his sending-off for George Asamoah in the 71st minute.

The ten men of Inter Allies fought back with some chances of their own which were spurned by Ibrahim Alhassan and Prince Baffoe who fired wide after going through the Kotoko defence in the 76th and 79th minutes.

Kotoko goalie, Ernest Sowah was also on hand to deny Gockel Ahortor the equalizer with a stunning save in the 83rd minute.
