QNB Stars League Week 12 Highlights

Al Duhail continued their good form in Week 12 of the QNB Stars League and extended their lead at the top of standings to eight points as they notched up yet another big win (5-1), this time over Al Shahania.

Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi (hat-trick), Brazilian forward Paulo Edmilson and South Korean midfielder Nam Tae-Hee scored the goals as defending champions Al Duhail moved to 31 points with one game in hand. The Red Knights’ Week 9 match against Al Sadd was rescheduled due to AFC Champions League commitments and will be played on 11th December.

Ramin Semeskandi scored a consolation goal late in the game for Al Shahania who slipped from eighth to ninth with 12 points.

Al Sadd stayed on course for the title by defeating Al Kharaitiyat by a 7-1 margin. The Wolves moved from third to second position with 23 points.

Ace Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah (three goals), Hamed Ismail, Abdulkareem Hassan, Akram Afif and Ahmad Sayyar scored for Al Sadd, while Mahmoud Saad gave Al Kharaitiyat’s lone reply.

The Wolves have two matches yet to play, against Al Khor from Week 5 and leaders Al Duhail from Week 9. They will be played on 28th November and 11th December respectively.

Al Kharaitiyat remained at the bottom of the table with three points and are in dire straits.

Al Sailiya moved from fourth to third spot following their 2-0 victory over Umm Salal, with Abdulqadir Ilyas and Fahad Youssef finding the target. The Peregrines have 22 points, the same as Al Rayyan, who were held 1-1 by Al Ahli, but were placed third on better goal difference (+10 as against Al Rayyan’s +2).

Nevertheless, Umm Salal stayed seventh with 15 points, while Al Ahli stood fifth with 19 points.

Lucca Borges and Mouhcine Moutaouli scored for Al Rayyan and Al Ahli respectively.

Similarly, Al Gharafa remained on sixth position with 18 points after they beat Qatar SC 2-0, Wesley Sneijder scoring both goals including a penalty.

However, the Dutchman left the field moments before the final whistle heartbroken after receiving his marching orders for fouling rival goalkeeper Jassim Al Hail in stoppage time.

Qatar SC were rooted at 10th with 11 points.

Al Arabi jumped from ninth to eighth place as they got back to winning ways with a 1-0 verdict against Al Khor. Striker Mohammed Salah El Neel scored the all-important goal.

Al Arabi moved to 15 points, whereas Al Khor stayed 11th with eight points.

 A total of 21 goals were scored in the week. The QNB Stars League will resume on 23rd November with Week 13 fixtures after a fortnight-long international break that will accommodate the QSL Cup’s third-round fixtures.
