Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye has insisted that the Black Stars players should pay their own winning bonuses if they win the game against Rwanda on Saturday in the 2017 AFCON qualifier after purchasing their own flight tickets.

Most of the foreign based players purchased their own tickets to fly for the game while deputy captain Andre Ayew offered tickets for the few who could not afford their own.

This action of the players came following the Sports Minister‘s decision that the nation cannot afford the tickets for the players since the game is not important because Ghana has already qualified for the AFCON.

Speaking to Asempa Sports in an interview, Nii Lante said, “I have already stated that the Ministry has no money to cater for the players air tickets to play for the country so if they have been patriotic enough to buy their own tickets, then they should pay their own winning bonus in addition.

“We have no money to pay any foreign-based player any winning bonus and that is our stand. But we will have something for the team and whatever it is, they players must have to accept it whether they like it or not,” he added.
