Nakheel Landscapes, Galfar Al Misnad, Larsen & Toubro and Taleb Group all booked their berths in the semifinals of 2019 Workers’ Cup, following their quarterfinal victories on Matchday 5 at the Al Sadd Sports Club pitches on Friday, the 4th of January.

The seventh edition of Workers’ Cup, the annual football tournament organised by the Qatar Stars League and sponsored by Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy for those involved in the construction sector in Qatar, had started on 7th December.

The final is scheduled for 25th January.

In the quarterfinals, reigning champions Nakheel took some time to get into their groove, but eventually broke down Spartan Ready Mix’s resistance, taking a two-goal lead into half-time.

In the second half, Spartan were reduced to 10 men following Jabaru Shaibu’s dismissal for a second yellow card. Nakheel capitalised on the numerical advantage and added two more goals for a 4-0 win.

Galfar Al Misnad ensured they would take their place alongside Nakheel in the semifinals after dispatching Medgulf Construction 3-0.

It was a tale of two distinct halves in the third quarterfinal, which pitted G4S against free-scoring Taleb Group. Taleb grew into the game quickly and dominated, but G4S managed to restrict them to a one-goal advantage in the first half.

Things changed dramatically after half-time as Taleb stepped on the gas and struck five times more to register a 6-0 victory.

In what was the most exciting game of the day, L&T mounted a thrilling comeback to see off Shapoorji Pallonji 3-1.
