Pochettino keen on specific targets

Published on: 20 October 2018

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is adamant he will not go into the January transfer window with a long list of potential signings.

Spurs surprised many by failing to sign a single player through the summer transfer window and have shocked even more by matching their best start to a Premier League campaign.

Despite chairman Daniel Levy insisting there will be money earmarked for spending in January, Pochettino says he is not expecting a host of fresh faces to join in the New Year.

Instead the Argentine is only interested in adding real quality that can push Spurs closer toward their objectives.

Pochettino told Soccer Saturday: "A big list of players? No, I am not like this. I think football for us is more about trying to find the right player to fit for us, it's not like you go shopping with your family.

"Of course it is not easy to find and identify the target, and when you identify the target it becomes a problem because sometimes it's not a fit in different areas, and sometimes it is not easy to sign. But this way is so complex."

Spurs are 4/6 to finish in the top four this season, while rivals Arsenal are 11/8 to achieve the same feat.
