Umm Salal moved to 10 points, while Al Kharaitiyat’s winless run continued.

Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo scored the goals for Umm Salal in the 19th (penalty) and 24th minutes.

The penalty, that helped Umm Salal draw level, was awarded after Al Kharaitiyat defender Abdrahman Mahamat handled Sagbo’s header.

Sagbo converted from the spot by sending Al Kharaitiyat goalkeeper Ahmed Sofyan the other way.

The burly striker was at it again after five minutes.

A Jugurtha Hamroun free-kick that hit the side netting was the nearest Al Kharaitiyat came towards drawing parity before the half-time whistle.

Sagbo continued from where he left off in the first half. This time, he saw his shot being blocked by the rival goalkeeper.

At the other end, Romanian Valentin Lazar took a more proactive role for Al Kharaitiyat who desperately sought their first point. He came up with a thunderous shot after 65 minutes and that was put to safety by Umm Salal goalkeeper Basel Zaidan.

Syrian Mahmoud Al Mawas was the livewire in the Umm Salal ranks. He almost made it 3-1, but Sofyan thwarted his attempt from close range in the 77th minute.

Al Kharaitiyat then got a good opportunity. Mahmoud Saad neatly  crossed the ball from the left, but Abdulla Al Anzi could not beat Zaidan.
