Umm Salal and Qatar SC played out a 1-1 draw in Week 9 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Gharafa Stadium on Saturday.
Brazilian Sandro Ferreira netted Qatar SC’s goal in the 79th minute, while Umm Salal equalised in stoppage time (90+4) through Ismail Dahqani.
Umm Salal moved to 14 points and Qatar SC eight.
Both teams went into the match with contrasting backgrounds. While Umm Salal lost to reigning champions Al Duhail 0-2, Qatar SC defeated Al Kharaitiyat 2-0 in the previous round, played a fortnight ago before the QNB Stars League was halted due to international break.
Umm Salal and Qatar SC created chances, but a goal was missing till the 79th minute.
Umm Salal forced five corners as against four by Qatar SC, who had 52 per cent of ball possession.
Umm Salal’s Yannick Sagbo and Mahmoud Al Mawas tried hard to score, while Cameroonian star Samuel Eto’o and Sandro were at the helm of Qatar SC attacks.
Qatar SC finally broke the deadlock, with Sandro heading home an Ahmed Moein corner kick from the right.
When it looked Qatar SC, coached by Argentinian Sergio Batista, would score their third victory in this season’s QNB Stars League, Umm Salal drew level deep into the game as Ismail’s shot went into the goal with a deflection from Sandro. The goal originated from an Al Mawas free-kick.
