Rave reviews for QSL’s Level 1 Match Analysis Course

Published on: 17 December 2018

Rave reviews poured in for the Qatar Stars League’s (QSL) Level 1 Match Analysis Course, held at the Al Duhail Sports Club from 9th to 13th December.

The course was organised by the QSL’s Football Development Department, in association with famous Portuguese coach as well as UEFA Instructor Prof Jorge Castelo, Belenenses Football Club’s Match Analyst Mauro Saraiva and Videobserver Match Analysis Consultancy Company.

The five-day course was conducted under the guidance of QSL’s Acting Executive Director of Football Development and Competitions Ahmad Khalil Al Abbasi and Head of Football Development Miguel Heitor.

The theory classes were held at the Al Duhail Press Conference room from 08:00 to 13:00.

The course focused on theoretical (Tactical System, Structure, Game’s Phases, Offensive Methods and Defensive Methods) and practical sessions (Videobserver platform and Creating Observation Analysis).

A total of 24 participants, divided into five groups, returned richer by the experience that they gained from the in-depth analyses, where they got to present, interpret and explain their views.

The course attendees ranged from players (including four national team members), coaches, referees and mediapersons. They also got a chance to analyse the QNB Stars League match between Al Sadd and Al Duhail on 11th December.

Each of them received Level 1 Match Analysis Certificate endorsed by the QSL and Videobserver Match Analysis company at the valedictory ceremony held on the final day of the course.

The first two days dealt with theory classes, while the third and fourth days focused on practical sessions. The participants presented their analyses of the 2018 FIFA World Cup final match played between France and Croatia on the fourth day.

Heitor summarised the course, “The most notable feature of the course was the training analysis (technical and tactical) held on the last day. The attendees got the opportunity to assess the fundamentals of football training by analysing and categorising a session conducted by Pep Guardiola at his former club Bayern Munich.

“Technology holds the key to effective match analysis as each club will’ve six to eight training sessions before a game. Days 1 and 2 shed light on the concepts of match analysis, while Day 3 witnessed introduction to practical analysis. Day 4 saw each group present their findings, observations and comments.”

Prof Castelo gave his takes on the course, “I’m sure the attendees, who all were very proactive, returned with a different perspective, having understood the game better. We gave them guidance to make a more technical approach to the game.”

Mauro hailed the QSL’s initiative, saying “The QSL has to be lauded for making use of various experts and imparting their knowledge to participants of such courses. It was a give-and-take for me as the attendees succeeded in making their experience reach us.”

The QSL’s next Match Analysis Course is scheduled for April.
