The QSL Cup is into its fifth and final round in the group stage. The fixtures will be played on Thursday, 10th January, and Friday, 11th January.
Thursday’s fixtures (Group A) are Umm Salal vs Al Kharaitiyat (16:20) at Al Arabi Stadium, Al Arabi vs Al Gharafa (18:45) at Al Arabi Stadium and Qatar SC vs Al Duhail (18:45) at Al Gharafa Stadium.
On Friday (Group B), it will be Al Sailiya vs Al Shahania (16:20) at Al Duhail Stadium, Al Khor vs Al Rayyan (18:45) at Al Ahli Stadium and Al Ahli vs Al Sadd (18:45) at Al Ahli Stadium.
The final round will determine the fourth team to qualify for the quarterfinals from the group as Al Gharafa, Al Duhail and Qatar SC had already reached the knockout stage, all with eight points. These three teams have two victories each to their credit.
Umm Salal are in fourth place with five points, followed by Al Kharaitiyat (three points).
The fight for the fourth spot is between Umm Salal and Al Kharaitiyat, while Al Arabi are out of contention for quarterfinal qualification without even a single point so far.
Umm Salal need only a draw, while Al Kharaitiyat are in a must-win situation.
In Group B, the matches will be more of academic interest as Al Rayyan, Al Khor, Al Ahli and Al Sadd had already reached the quarterfinals after the last round of action.
Al Rayyan, Al Khor, Al Ahli and Al Sadd have 12, 10, six and five points respectively.
Al Rayyan are the team with most wins (four), whereas Al Khor, Al Ahli and Al Sadd have three, two and one respectively.
Al Sailiya and Al Shahania, who will play against each other, had missed out on qualification, the former having just one point and the latter yet to open their account.
The match between Al Rayyan and Al Khor will evoke more interest as it will determine the group toppers.
