Umm Salal announced the renewal of contract with coach Raul Caneda for a year.
The Spaniard, who replaced Frenchman Laurent Banide this season, signed the deal in the presence of Umm Salal SC President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser Al Thani.
He will oversee Umm Salal’s preparations for the 2019-20 season and the overseas camp after their Emir Cup engagements.
Umm Salal finished ninth in this season’s QNB Stars League with 23 points (six victories, five draws and 11 defeats). The Orange Fortress scored 24 goals and conceded 44.
It was a dismal performance compared to Umm Salal’s display in the 2017-18 season, where they ended up fifth in the QNB Stars League.
Caneda, born in 1969, started his coaching career in 2006 at Mexican club Dorados de Sinaloa before taking over Spanish sides Real Sociedad and Almeria.
He also worked with his compatriot Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as a performance analyst and club scout.
