Round three of the QNB Stars League will see a spotlight match of interest between Al Sadd and Al Gharafa on Friday evening at Al Sadd stadium.
Jesulado Ferriera’s Wolves may have registered two wins this season, but they have hardly covered themselves in glory in their performances. Last time out, they held out for an important 3-2 victory over Al Sailiya and could of easily ended 3-3 had Sailiya’s last minute equaliser been correctly ruled offside by officials.
A statement victory would be crucial for Sadd, especially heading into the two week break for international football. In attack, Sadd have really found their momentum with Algerian attacker Jugurtha Hamroun catching the eye with a goal and two assists last time out against Sailiya. However a clean sheet will be the real priority for Ferriera and will be hoping Iranian international Morteza Pouraliganji can rediscover his form from last season.
As for Al Gharafa, they have made a solid start in the league registering two draws in their opening matches of the season against Al Ahli and Umm Salal. Under the guidance of veteran tactician Jean Fernandez, it has been made clear that youth will be given a real chance at the club this season and so far it has worked for the Cheetahs.
With Sadd being a real force in attack, Gharafa will have to continue their impressive rear guard form that has only seen them concede once in 180 minutes of the season so far. Venezuelan central defender Rubert Quijada is expected to play a part for the team, and the imposing defender will have to be at his very best to deny the attacking flair of Sadd.
