Doha: Hernan Perez fired a brace as Al Ahli climbed back to second spot with a 2-0 victory over Al Kharaitiyat at the QNB Stars League, yesterday.

In other two matches yesterday that wrapped up Round 9 action, last edition’s runners-up Al Rayyan were held to a 1-1 draw by Umm Salal while Al Khor edged Al Wakrah 1-0 to register their first win of the QSL season.

Al Ahli continued with their impressive run of form on their home turf, with Paraguayan Perez scoring two goals (34th minute and 38th minute) in the span of five minutes.

With the win, Al Ahli moved to 19 points, one point ahead of Al Gharafa, with Al Sadd leading the points standings with 25 points.

Meanwhile, Al Rayyan were held to a fourth draw of the season after Umm Salal stole a point from the former champions at Al Duhail Stadium.

Striker Yacine Brahimi took Al Rayyan ahead with a goal on a penalty kick in 32 minute, while Kayke Rodrigues levelled the score with a strike in 50th minute. Despite dominating the proceedings, Al Rayyan, who enjoyed a lion’s share of ball possession, were unable to find a match-winning goal. They are now sixth in the points standing with 13 points.

Earlier, yesterday at Al Ahli Stadium, Giannis Fetfatzidid scored the all-important goal in the 31st minute for Al Khor, who now have seven points as they have also recorded four draws and as many defeats.

Al Wakrah remained on 10 points with their fifth defeat, as they once again paid the price for inconsistency in performance.

Giannis linked up well with Leonardo De Souza in taking advantage of a mis-pass on the part of Al Wakrah and grabbing the ball from near the centre circle. The Greek attacking midfielder then quickly made his way into the box and unleashed a rising shot past Al Wakrah goalkeeper Mohamed Saeed.

During the first session, Al Khor’s Rafael Santos had a free-kick tipped over the bar by the goalkeeper, while Al Wakrah’s spearhead Mohamed Benyettou was thwarted twice by goalkeeper Baba Djibril.
