Doha: Renowned French coach Christian Gourcuff is back in Doha to revive the flagging fortunes of Al Gharafa.

Gourcuff, who led Gharafa (then known as Al Ittihad) to a fourth-place finish during his previous stint in 2003-04, landed in Doha on Friday and met with the club Vice-President Saad Al Shammari to discuss the preparations for the pre-season camp in the Netherlands from July 1 to 18.

The 63-year old, who was with French Ligue 1 side Rennes has also coached top club sides including Lorient, Le Mans as well as the Algerian national team.

Gharafa parted with Bulent Uygun at the end of the season after the Turkish coach failed to deliver the goods after taking charge in January.

Though Gharafa finished fourth in the QNB Stars League they failed to progress past the group stage of the AFC Champions League and failed to pose any real challenge in the Qatar Cup and Emir Cup competitions.
