Mohamed Salah scored in the first minute as Liverpool finished the Champions League group stage with a draw at FC Midtjylland.

The Reds had already secured Group D's top spot and passage to the round of 16 entering Wednesday's game against the Danish side.

Playing a mix of regular starters and young reserves, Liverpool endured some shaky defending to keep the scoreline level.

Midtjylland nearly equalised in the 34th minute when Sory Kaba's looping ball was kept out of the net with a touchline effort from an outstretched Fabinho.

Evander rattled the crossbar minutes after halftime, but Alexander Scholz's penalty conversation in the 62nd minute equalised for Midtjylland when VAR ruled that Anders Dreyer had been fouled by Reds keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

A would-be game winner from Takumi Minamino was overturned in stoppage time after VAR ruled for a handball.
