Perez outlines Toon target

Published on: 10 March 2019

Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez believes two more wins should be enough to see the Magpies avoid the drop this season.

Rafael Benitez's side find themselves six points clear of the relegation zone after a thrilling 3-2 victory against Everton on Saturday.

The Magpies found themselves two goals down after just over half an hour, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison gave the Toffees the advantage at St James' Park.

However, Salomon Rondon and a brace from Perez ensured it was the Magpies who claimed the three points.

With Newcastle just six points away from the magic 40, Perez feels two more wins should be enough to avoid the drop back down to the Championship.

He told NUFC TV: "That would be wrong. We have to keep the momentum but obviously, it's still not done.

"We have to get that number that makes you be safe 100 per cent, so two more wins and you forget about the relegation battle and that's it.

"Then you can start to dream and start trying to improve and get as high as you can."

Newcastle are next in action on Saturday when they make the trip to Bournemouth.

The Magpies are 11/4 to win, 23/10 to draw and 1/1 to lose to the Cherries.
