Doha: Qatar has been confirmed as the host nation for FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers for the upcoming Group E Window in February next year, it was announced yesterday

The qualifiers will take place from February 18-22, 2021 in four countries, including Qatar.

The venues for the FIBA Qualifiers were confirmed yesterday by the FIBA Regional Office Asia.

After successfully concluding the games of the Qualifiers in a secured bubble in Doha in November, Qatar will once again host the Group E teams, Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

Clark (Philippines), Tokyo (Japan) and Manama (Bahrain) will host the rest of the group matches in the third and last window of the qualifying stage.

Iran, ranked 23rd in the world, are currently leading the Group with seven points from wins out of four matches they have played so far, while Qatar are fourth with one win and five points.

Qatar's win came when they spoiled the debut of a new-look Syria squad (79-72) at Al Gharafa Indoor Stadium.

The Philippines are leading Group A with a perfect record while the Group B is led by Chinese Taipei. New Zealand are on top in Group C and unbeaten Lebanon occupy the number 1 spot in Group D.

All qualifying matches be organised as protected environment tournaments in order to ensure health and safety of all participants. The most important criteria in choosing the hosts, like for the previous window, was health and travel guarantees and compliance with FIBA health protocols, including testing and controlled entry into a secure environment.

The exact schedule of games will be confirmed at a later stage.
