Baghdad Bounedjah netted a hat-trick as Al-Sadd registered a thumping 7-1 victory over Al-Kharaitiyat in Round 12 of the QNB Stars League on Thursday evening.
The result took Al-Sadd to second place in the league table with a tally of 23 points, with two delayed games against Al-Khor and Al-Duhail yet to be played.
Al-Sadd broke the deadlock in the 17th minute through Bounedjah, who finished with ease after Ahmed Sufyan’s parried clearance fell at this feet following a cross from Hamid Ismail.
Hamid then got on the scoresheet in the 28th minute, slotting home a loose ball in the box to double Al-Sadd’s lead. Al-Sadd would end the first half with another goal, with Abdelkarim Hassan doing the trick this time. The left-back lashed in a fierce effort after Bounedjah set him up with a through ball.
As the second half kicked off, Bounedjah resumed his goalscoring and netted in the 46th minute itself. The Algerian exchanged passes with Akram Afif before retaining his composure and scoring past Sufyan.
In the 64th minute, it was Afif’s turn to score and he made no mistake from the spot after being awarded a penalty for a foul on him inside the box.
With the score at 5-0, Al-Sadd were cruising but Al-Kharaitiyat pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute through Mahmoud Saad who scored with a low finish past Saad Al-Dosari.
However, Al-Sadd were in no mood to stop scoring and went on to score twice in the latter stages of the game. First, it was Bounedjah, who completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute with an unstoppable left-footed strike to make it 6-1. Substitute Ahmed Bader Sayyar then rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute with a cool finish after being set up by Afif.
