Two second-half goals lifted Al Rayyan to a 2-1 win over Al Sailiya in Week 10 of the QNB Stars League at the Al Ahli Stadium on Thursday.

Sebastian Soria (71st) and Rodrigo Tabata (82nd) scored the goals for Al Rayyan after Al Sailiya’s Abdulqadir Ilyas had found the net close to the first-half whistle.

In the 15th minute, Al Rayyan’s Brazilian forward Lucca Borges outran his marker and charged towards the Al Sailiya box. Right on the edge of the box, he unleashed a powerful shot that was smartly saved by Al Sailiya goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater.

In the 34th minute, Al Sailiya’s Rashid Al Rashdi fired a bullet from close range, but Al Rayyan’s Dame Traore was quick to block the shot by turning his back to the threat.

Lucca then produced a snap-header following an accurate cross from Masoud on the left flank, but the ball sailed past the Al Sailiya goalpost.

A minute before injury time, Ilyas scored for Al Sailiya after picking up a cross from the centre of the field. Despite being given chase by defender Traore, he trapped the ball close to himself before firing it past keeper Omar Barry.

Soria, after receiving a cross on the edge of the box, chipped one above the head level of three Al Sailiya players, but his shot narrowly missed the far goalpost.

After numerous attempts at goal, Soria headed the ball into the net off a long cross from the flank with an airborne dive to meet the ball.

With momentum on their side, Al Rayyan scored the second goal as Tabata tapped the ball into the net from close range following a cross from Lucca standing nearby.

Tabata’s fourth goal of the season turned out to be the winner for Al Rayyan.
