Al Wakrah defeated Al Ahli 1-0 in Week 21 of the 2019-20 season QNB Stars League at the Al Janoub Stadium on Thursday.

Cristian Ceballos scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 74th minute as Al Wakrah raised their tally to 27 points with their seventh victory.

Al Ahli remained on 20 points after suffering their 11th defeat.

Al Wakrah, playing in the top flight after a gap of two seasons, had beaten Al Arabi 2-1 in Week 20.

In Al Wakrah vs Al Ahli head-to-head in the first leg of 2019-20 QNB Stars League, the former had won 2-1.

Al Ahli had to play with one man less half of the match as Ahmed Akaichi received his second yellow card and marching orders after he fouled Al Wakrah’s Ousmane Coulibaly in the 45th minute.

Al Ahli’s Hazem Shehata was twice thwarted by Al Wakrah goalkeeper Saoud Al Khater and Akaichi headed wide of the target, while Al Wakrah’s Omar Ali and Murad Naji made attempts at the goal in the first half.

Soon after the start of second half, Al Ahli’s Abdulrasheed Umaru hit the post.

At the other end, Al Wakrah’s Meshaal Abdulla’s goalbound shot was blocked by rival defender Shane Lowry.

Ceballos, making up for his long injury layoff, converted the penalty awarded when Meshaal was brought down by Mohammed Diamy.

Meshaal was unlucky in the 85th minute as he sent his shot against the crossbar.
