QNB Stars League Week 8 — Al Duhail 2 Umm Salal 0

Published on: 07 October 2018

Holders Al Duhail continued their winning run by beating Umm Salal 2-0 in Week 8 of the QNB Stars League on Sunday.

Nam Tae-Hee (13th minute) and Almoez Ali (90+3) scored the goals for the hosts who took their points to 19. In the process, they registred their sixth victory. The only occasion they dropped points was when they were held by Al Rayyan.

Umm Salal’s three-match winning run thus came to an end. The Orange Fortress stayed on 13 points.

Al Duhail dominated possession (57 per cent). Naturally, they forced more corner kicks (seven as against Umm Salal’s three).

Al Duhail created more chances throughout. Umm Salal showed more alacrity in the second half during which they were unlucky not to have scored a goal that would have helped them pull off a draw and a valuable point as the rivals struck a second time at the fag end of the game.

The first goal came off the boots of South Korean attacking midfielder Nam with a deflection off Umm Salal defender Mohammed Kassola’s body.

Umm Salal’s Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo curled in a free-kick nicely towards the end of first half only to see Al Duhail goalkeeper Khalifa Aboobacker, standing in for injured first choice Amin Lecomte, just about tip the ball over the bar.

Al Duhail’s Paolo Edmilson kept rival goalkeeper Bazel Zaidan busy in the first half even as the Brazilian forward’s team-mate Abdulla Abdulsalam hit over the horizontal.

Umm Salal showed more purpose in the second session. However, a goal eluded them, with Sagbo sending an opportunistic strike straight to Khalifa and Syrian striker Mahmoud Al Mawas unleashing a bullet shot over the horizontal.

Al Duhail’s second goal came off a counter-attack. Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi found Edmilson on the right and the latter found an unmarked Almoez who only had to apply the finishing touch deep into the game.
