QSL Cup Round 2 results on Thursday

The second round of QSL Cup got under way on Thursday with some interesting outcomes in Group A as Al Kharaitiyat secured a 2-0 home victory against Al Arabi, Al Gharafa scored a last-second equaliser to make it 1-1 against Al Duhail and Qatar SC were restricted to a 0-0 draw against Umm Salal.

Al Kharaitiyat 2 Al Arabi 0

Al Kharaitiyat were able to put their league form to one side with an impressive cameo from Valentin Lazar.

The Romanian was instrumental in much of the home side’s attacking play and was in prime position to watch Majid Salmeen score the 37th-minute opener.

The Qatari midfielder received the ball far out before advancing and launching a powerful drive past the helpless goalkeeper.

The points were secured in the 40th minute as Salmeen supplied the vital pass to Valentin who snuck in front of goal and finished in clinical fashion.

Qatar SC 0 Umm Salal 0

The encounter between Qatar SC and Umm Salal failed to produce any goal across the 90 minutes, so both teams had to be satisfied with a point each.

The chances were few and far between, with perhaps the closest either side came to scoring was Yannick Sagbo’s thunderous free-kick from the right that was well kept out by the goalkeeper.

Qatar SC pushed late on, but it was not enough to grab a victory.

Al Gharafa 1 Al Duhail 1

Al Duhail were left speechless as Al Gharafa secured a last-gasp (90+4) equaliser to share the spoils.

A 17th-minute Al Duhail goal settled the nerves at the Qatar SC Stadium, thanks to Fahad Al Buyati’s early contribution. Having won possession in midfield, Yousef El Arabi raced clear of the defence before unselfishly squaring the ball for the Qatari Under-23 attacker to finish with composure.

Al Buyati then had a chance to double the lead early in the second half, but was denied, thanks to fantastic goalkeeping by Qasem Burhan between the opposition posts.

Al Gharafa were unfortunate in the second half when first Burhan denied Abdulghani Muneer, before Muaith Al Salemi’s shot across the goal was marginally wide, but they were not finished.

Right at the end, Diogo Amado’s header ricocheted off the bar and onto the grateful head of Abdulghani to rescue a point from close range.
