Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a one-match Champions League ban by UEFA and it means he will be available to face former club Manchester United.

Ronaldo was red carded 29 minutes into his Champions League debut for Juventus in a 2-0 victory against Valencia after clashing with Jeison Murillo. The decision was widely criticised, with Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri insisting VAR would have seen a different end result.

Sources had told ESPN FC that the punishment would be limited to just a one-match ban and that has now been confirmed. It means Ronaldo will miss the visit of Young Boys on Oct. 2 but have the opportunity to return to Old Trafford for the clash with United on Oct. 23.

Ronaldo spent six seasons with the club from 2003 to 2009, winning three league titles, a Champions League and the first of his five Ballon d'Or awards.

He has returned on one occasion since leaving the club, and scored the goal which saw Real Madrid knock United out of the Champions League in 2013.
