Solskjaer loses unbeaten record

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's unbeaten run in the league since taking over caretaker charge of Manchester United has come to an end with his team beaten 2-0 at Arsenal.

Goals from Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave the Gunners a win over their great rivals and the result means they overtake United and move fourth in the Premier League table.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery made four changes from the side that drew with Tottenham last weekend, Mesut Ozil and Aubameyang getting back in the starting line-up while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was able to bring back Paul Pogba and the fit-again Nemanja Matic.

Arsenal started much stronger and Alexandre Lacazette only just failed to get a touch on a ball from Sead Kolasinic which would have given them an early lead.

United did respond and hit the woodwork, with their first attack, Romelu Lukaku going close, however Arsenal got the goal their early play deserved, Xhaka going for a shot from 25 yards out which David de Gea didn't get near despite the ball not getting a deflection.

United were next to threaten and hit the woodwork again on 20 minutes, Fred's low shot from long range hitting the base of the post.

The visitors were looking dangerous when going forward but Arsenal were impressing and Lacazette was getting chances to extend the Gunners lead. However, half-time arrived with the teams still separated by Xhaka's strike.

After starting the game sluggishly United were a better side after the break, stretching the Arsenal defence and Bernd Leno was forced into a good save from Lukaku though Arsenal also went close through Aubameyang.

Ozil was also influential in his return to the Gunners team and laid the ball off to Xhaka but he couldn't find the target this time, shooting wide.

However, they did extend their lead when they were awarded a penalty midway through the half, Fred adjudged to have fouled Lacazette in the area and Aubameyang, who missed a penalty against Spurs last week, made no mistake this time to double his side's lead.

The result means that, in the race for a top four spot in the league, Arsenal move into fourth, just a point behind Tottenham. United are fifth while Chelsea are a point and a place behind them in sixth.

Arsenal are back in action on Thursday at home to Rennes in the second-leg in their Europa League round of 16 tie. Arsenal trail 3-1 after the first-leg but are 3/10 to win the home tie with Rennes 8/1 and the draw 9/2.

Arsenal are 8/1 to win the Europa League this season with Chelsea 11/4 and Sevilla 10/1.
