Doha, Qatar: Ten-man Al Ahli held on to a goalless draw against Al Shahania in the QNB Stars League on Thursday.
Ahli played with 10 men for almost three quarters of the match played at their own stadium after Jhon Carlos was given the marching orders in the 24th minute, but they fought valiantly to snatch a point.
The draw helped Al Ahli move to 30 points, the same as fourth-placed Al Rayyan who take on Al Khor on Friday while Al Shahania are seventh on 21 points.
Ahli keeper Ivanildo Santos had an impressive outing and denied goalbound efforts from Ramin Rezaeian and Sultan Al Kuwari.
In the second match of the day, Valentin Marius Lazar scored the winner as Al Kharaitiyat defeated Qatar Sports Club 1-0.
Kharaitiyat’s third straight victory took them to 12 points but they are still bottom of the table, three behind 11th placed Al Khor. Qatar SC are 10th on 16.
