Warnock: Our season starts now

Published on: 01 December 2018

Neil Warnock hopes that his Cardiff City players can build on Friday's 2-1 victory against Wolves and go on to avoid relegation this term.

The Bluebirds came from behind to defeat last season's top team in the Championship and secure their third top-flight win of the campaign following their previous triumphs against Fulham and Brighton.

Matt Doherty had given Wolves the lead but Warnock's team scored twice after the break through Aron Gunnarsson and Junior Hoilett to emerge victorious and leave them at 4/7 to be relegated this season.

Wolves are 33/1 to go down, Huddersfield 8/11 and Fulham 5/6.

"I'm really proud of them," Warnock said afterwards. "We're fighting against the odds, but we've got a great set of lads and we deserved that victory over the 90 minutes.

"At half-time I said to the lads that, two years ago on a Friday night, our season started when we beat Bristol City on the television. This match had to be the same - our season can start and that's how it felt - we didn't let anybody down and we deserved it.

"We've improved our squad and we've got to improve again in January. All my career I've tried to prove people wrong but this will still be the most difficult task because we've got to do a lot more."
